ATPAC meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology and groups
On April 10th, 2010, the Association of Thai Professionals in America and Canada (ATPAC) team had an opportunity to meet with the Minister, Dr. Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Suchinda Chotipanich, Ministry of Science and Technology, and their team to discuss the directions of business, education, science, and technology in Thailand. The meeting was held at the Heldrich Hotel & Spa in New Brunswick, New Jersey, U.S.A.
On behalf of the ATPAC, Dr. Vichate Ungvichian and Dr. Methi Wecharatana presented to the Minister the past and present projects collaborated between ATPAC members and Thai counterparts. Besides the important factors contributing to the success and failure of past projects, they also presented a direction for future collaboration that will make Thailand a world-class player in the area of science and technology.
In the meeting, Dr. Khunying Kalaya Soponpanit recited the government policy and directions, especially of the Ministry of Science and Technology. She emphasized that the government strives to find ways to effectively and efficiently utilize sciences and technology to create “Work”, “Wealth”, and “Well-being” in Thailand. The on-going and discussed projects aimed at improving the infrastructure of Thailand, include expanding twin rail train, improving logistic, and identifying alternative energy. The government would also like to see more involvement from private sectors in the projects that will create jobs and improve the quality of education in Thailand.
In response to the discussion, the ATPAC has formed a team to follow up on ideas suggested and derived from the meeting.
